New project evaluation visit of Fair-grounds Foundation to Abbotsleigh Tea Estate

November 2017, a Fair-grounds Foundation delegation plans to visit the Abbotsleigh Tea Estate in Sri Lanka where a number of possible new projects will be evaluated.

Available funds, brought together by the Rotterdam Marathon sponsorship action and sales of Sunleaf tea, could be used for this purpose. There is a great need for renovation and construction of a number of day care centers. Additionally, the Estate Manager would like to build a community center, a building where they can organize various activities for people living and working on the Estate.

Abbotsleigh is located in the Ambagamuwa coral or Nuwara Eliya district about seven kilometers from Hatton. The property is at an altitude of 1300 meters and is owned by Watawala Plantations. The total area of the estate is 428 hectares and 603 families live on the estate. The population consists of 849 men, 1145 women and 765 children.

Abbotsleigh is a Fairtrade and Rainforest Certified Estate.
