Today the board of the Fair-grounds Foundation, Arnoud Francken and Marcel Vogel opened a day care center and a community center with enormous interest from the local population and booming fireworks. The nursery, a so-called pre-school, is in the Marske Division of the Abbotsleigh Tea Estate in Sri Lanka. With the investment made by the Fair-grounds Foundation, the entire nursery has been 'renovated' on the existing walls. New roof, new plumbing, new space for cots, a baby room, new kitchen and a new small office for the leader of this nursery were built.
Especially for this occasion, the nursery has been symbolically opened by the children of both board members. This was done by cutting the ribbon out of their name and revealing the 'memorial plaque'. On this gold-colored plate were the names of all children with the appropriate text 'kids for kids'.
During the ceremony, various children from the Estate performed dances and held various speeches. During their speeches, both board members wished the people good luck with the new nursery and expressed their gratitude that they were able to realize the construction through their Foundation.
After this ceremony, a large procession headed for the new COMMUNITEA CENTER. This community center is completely new and offers space for approximately 300 people. A nice light space partly through a full window side overlooking the valley with a view to the tea processing factory of the Abbotsleigh Estate. In this 'village house' sanitary facilities and a kitchen are also installed. Via a staircase you walk down and you reach two large wooden doors that form the entrance to the center. Central in the back is a small stage.
After both board members unveiled the commemorative plaque with the applicable text "We wish you a fair foundation for the future" and cut the ribbon, a big party immediately starts in the community center. Many dances are performed by young and old, with the local 'Michael Jackson' stealing the show with his dance act. Through various speeches it becomes clear that people are very happy with this community center. Gratitude is expressed several times and many hands are shaken by Arnoud and Marcel. It gives people the opportunity to celebrate various festivities and ceremonies centrally on the estate. The own homes are far too small for that.
At the center there is also a large panel with the name Communitea Center. This name was chosen because the Peeze Foundation, together with the Fair-grounds Foundation, made the construction of this center possible. Communitea is the tea brand of Peeze that seeks the connection with the local population in Sri Lanka. Commercial Director Myriam Lufting unfortunately had to cancel her trip at the last moment, but will visit the center in June 2018 together with Marcel Vogel. Then the last work will also have been completed.
Axxent Masters in Tea has partnered with Koffiebranderij Peeze for the production of the tea brand from Peeze. A collaboration from both Foundations to finance a 'Communitea Center' fits in perfectly with both objectives. After all, both prosperity and knowledge are shared with disadvantaged people who can use it well.
A word of thanks to everyone who made this special day possible in particular Estate Manager Suranga Dela. Abbotsleigh Estate is part of Hatton Plantations.
